Sculptor Jordan Sprigg grew up on a farm in Western Australia’s wheatbelt, collecting scrap metal and experimenting with shapes and forms while still at school.
Fusing his love of animals, drawing skills and immense creativity, Jordan makes remarkably lifelike sculptures from recycled metals from retired machinery, scrap heaps and clearance sales. From dragonflies, owls and seahorses to larger scale sharks, eagles and horses, Jordan’s sculptures are left in their rusted state to highlight the age of the metal and the history of each piece.
Some of the springs, shovels, saws, bearings and bolts are over 100 years old and were used by earliest settlers of Western Australia. Understanding and appreciation of these timeworn parts of a past life, allows space for creation of a new life in their current composition.
